Delhi is the UT with highest population density.
According to 2001 census, Delhi has a population density of 9340
persons/sq km. Total population of Delhi (as per 2001 census) is 13.80
million and its area is 1483 sq km. In 1991, total population of Delhi
was 9,420,644 and its population density was 6,352.
Delhi was made the capital of Indian in 1911. It was made a Union
Territory in 1956. Delhi is surrounded by Haryana on all sides except
the east where it borders with Uttar Pradesh. Under the 69th
Constitutional amendment Delhi got a Legislative Assembly with the
enactment of a National Capital Territory Act, 1991.
