Pradesh. According to the 2001 census, Uttar Pradesh had a population of
166,052,859. Nearly one-sixth of India's population resides in Uttar
Pradesh. The state has a population exceeding that of France, Germany,
and the Netherlands combined. Had Uttar Pradesh been an independent
country it would have been the sixth most populous country of the world
after China, India, the USA, Indonesia, and Brazil. According to the
2001 census, Hindus constitute 81% population of Uttar Pradesh while
Muslims at 18% are the second largest religious group. Sikh population
is mainly concentrated in and around Lakhimpur Khiri. |
