Southernmost Point of Indian MainlandKanyakumari is the southernmost Point of Indian
Mainland. Kanyakumari, also known as Cape Comorin, is located in the
state of Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari has great geographical significance as
it is the confluence of the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of
Bengal meet. The place is famous for its spectacular sunrises and
sunsets. Kanyakumari has been associated with great men such as Swami
Vivekanada and Mahatma Gandhi. Swamy Vivekananda visited Kanyakumari
during 24th, 25th and 26th December 1892 for deep meditation and
enlightenment. To commemorate the visit, a monument known as Vivekananda
Rock Memorial, has been built which attracts a large number of tourists.
Mahatma Gandhi visited Kanyakumari twice in 1925 and 1937. |
